Research in the Watt Lab
The Watt lab is studying the factors that regulate the behavior of cells (keratinocytes) in the epidermis, using a variety of approaches. These include performing clonal analysis on human keratinocytes transduced with retroviral vectors to modulate gene expression, generating transgenic mice with constitutive or inducible gene expression or deletion in the epidermis, and microarray analysis with human tumor material. The lab’s goals are to understand how the proliferation, differentiation and tissue assembly of epidermal stem cells and their progeny are controlled, and how these processes are perturbed in cancer.
